Engine performance

Facing persistent engine performance issues? IM2C’s experience in 4-stroke medium speed diesel engines was built over the last 15 years, in various brands.
Engine performance problems can have various causes, but in many cases major failures have quite similar root causes.
Your technical staff can get a lot of insight on the condition of your engines when a couple of basic checks are done on a regular basis, but unfortunately those checks are not recorded in the right way, not done at the same interval, etc.
Comparing engine data in the right way is a very powerful instrument when it comes to condition monitoring. Recording of basic engine performance parameters and measurements must be done under the following conditions:
-constant load condition during measuring; load % preferable to match those described in engine testbed protocols for easy comparison. Temperatures have to be constant.
-record the full set of parameters! Never miss out on important data as fuelrack setting, cylinder peak pressure, exhaust gas temperatures before and after turbocharger, charge air pressure, turbocharger revolutions, etc.; this is vital performance data when it comes to a good data-comparison.

As it is often neglected to fill out engine performance data in the OEM-record format, IM2C has developed a universal template for this, suitable for all various engines in your fleet. It is easily uploaded into your PMS-system, so you can build up a trending history.
